Client apps for UK law firms that work across offices and jurisdictions.

Codeeo offers legal services app development in the UK for multi office firms, national practices, legal networks and in house teams. We design and build iOS and Android client apps with a staff dashboard, covering onboarding, identity verification, consultation booking, secure documents, matter updates and payments. Each app is planned around the regulator and the procedure that apply to each client, whether the matter sits in England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.

The UK does not have one legal system but three, each with its own professional rules. A national firm needs one app that respects those differences, gives every office the same standard of client service, and produces records your compliance team can stand behind.

Built for
Multi office law firms, national conveyancing and claims practices, legal networks, alternative business structures and corporate legal teams across the UK.
Typical timeline
Discovery produces a phased plan, one jurisdiction or office group at a time, with each phase written down and agreed before work on it begins.
What you own
The firm owns all code, store listings, admin tools, cloud accounts and client data, with documentation for any future supplier.

Platform capabilities

What a national legal app has to get right.

In England and Wales, solicitors are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, with the Law Society acting as the professional body and the Legal Ombudsman handling complaints the firm cannot resolve. In Scotland, the Law Society of Scotland both represents and regulates solicitors, and complaints go to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission. Northern Ireland has its own Law Society. Barristers, licensed conveyancers and other authorised professionals have their own regulators again.

Across all three jurisdictions, UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 govern client data, the ICO oversees compliance, PECR covers electronic marketing and the Money Laundering Regulations require proper client due diligence. A national app has to carry those rules into every screen while still feeling simple to the client. These are the capabilities that matter most at that scale.

Explain your project
  • Jurisdiction aware matter setup

Each matter is tagged with its jurisdiction and practice area when it opens. The app then shows the right steps, terms and complaints information: completion and probate for an English client, date of entry and confirmation for a Scottish one. Staff never maintain two separate apps, and a client with matters in two jurisdictions sees each one described correctly.

Every client sees the process and rights that apply to them.

  • Digital identity verification

Clients verify identity by reading their passport chip and taking a liveness selfie, using a certified provider you choose. For conveyancing in England and Wales, we can follow the approach set out in HM Land Registry's Digital Identity Standard, which many firms use to reduce the risk of property fraud.

Identity is verified once, consistently, in every office.

  • Anti money laundering workflow

Source of funds questions, risk scoring inputs, sanctions and politically exposed person screening, and document requests run as a structured flow. Results are stored on the matter for your MLRO, and transactions cannot move forward in the app until checks are signed off.

Due diligence is complete and evidenced before money moves.

  • Price and service information

Firms regulated by the SRA must publish price and service information for areas such as residential conveyancing and uncontested probate. The app can show the same information at the point of enquiry, linked to your published pages, so clients see consistent costs information before they instruct you. Complaints procedure details and the regulator's name can appear in the same place.

Costs information stays consistent between website and app.

  • National booking and routing

Lawyer booking app development across the UK means routing clients to the right office, specialist and jurisdiction. Clients book by postcode, practice area or video call, and the system balances diaries across teams so one office is not overwhelmed while another sits idle.

Demand is spread sensibly across offices and fee earners.

  • Open Banking and card payments

Clients pay fees by card or by Open Banking bank transfer from inside the app, with payment confirmations attached to the matter. Client money continues to follow the accounts rules of the relevant regulator, handled through your existing finance system. Bank details are shown only inside the authenticated app, which helps defend clients against emails impersonating the firm.

Payments arrive faster and reconcile without manual matching.

  • Confidential document vault

Encrypted upload and download, version control and permissions by matter, so only the client and named staff see each file. Notifications never contain document content, and every access is logged for audits and confidentiality reviews. Retention periods can be set per practice area and jurisdiction, so files are kept as long as your policies require and no longer.

Privileged material stays inside a controlled environment.

  • Accessibility and Welsh language support

The app is designed to WCAG 2.2 so clients with visual, motor or cognitive impairments can use it, which supports your duty to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010. Firms with offices in Wales can offer Welsh language screens alongside English.

More clients can use the app without help.

  • Group reporting and office dashboards

Office heads see their own enquiries, conversions, outstanding checks and overdue matters, while group management sees the whole firm. Reports can be broken down by jurisdiction, practice area, branch or referral source, and exported to the reporting tools your finance team already uses.

Leaders compare offices on real data rather than anecdote.

  • Integration layer for practice systems

Firms that have grown by merger often run different case management or accounting systems in different offices. We build an integration layer that connects the app to each, so clients get one experience while back office systems are consolidated over time.

The app works today, even before systems are unified.

Who this is for

Four kinds of UK legal business we build for.

A national legal app is a different product from a single office booking tool. It has to serve clients in cities and rural areas, follow more than one set of rules and fit firms that have grown through acquisition. These are the organisations we plan for most often.

01

Firms with offices in England and Scotland

Cross border firms need one client experience that changes correctly with the jurisdiction: different terms, different procedures, different regulators and different complaints routes. We map both processes in discovery and design the app so the right version appears per matter. Staff work from one dashboard, and compliance teams in each jurisdiction approve their own wording. Reporting can still combine both jurisdictions, so the managing partner sees the whole firm in one place while each regulator's requirements are kept apart where they need to be.

One app, two legal systems, no confusion.

02

National conveyancing and claims practices

Practices that serve clients across the country by phone and online carry very high volumes. They need identity checks, milestone trackers, evidence upload and electronic signatures that work for thousands of matters at once. We build for scale, with supervisor views and automated reminders that keep files moving without extra staff. Because these practices rarely meet clients in person, clear onboarding and identity verification carry more weight, and we treat them as the foundation of the first release.

03

Legal networks and franchised brands

Networks of independent firms under a shared brand need a common app that each member firm can use for its own clients, while keeping data separated between firms. We design multi tenant structures where each firm controls its own matters, staff and settings under the shared brand. Network management sees anonymised activity across members, and each firm remains responsible for its own regulatory obligations and its own client relationships.

04

In house legal teams in national organisations

Corporate and public sector legal teams spread across several sites need an internal request app: contract reviews, policy questions and approvals, triaged and tracked. We connect it to your staff sign in, build reporting for the general counsel and keep legal advice inside the legal team's controlled space. Requests arriving from offices in different nations can be routed to the lawyer qualified in the relevant jurisdiction automatically.

Internal tool, built on the same secure core.

How we plan and roll out a UK wide legal app.

  1. 01National discoveryVideo sessions with management, compliance, finance, IT and representatives from several offices, so the scope reflects how the whole firm works rather than one branch.
  2. 02Rules and data mappingWe document the regulatory, data protection and anti money laundering points for each jurisdiction, agree hosting, and list every system the app must connect to.
  3. 03Shared core designWe design one core product with jurisdiction and office variations, then test clickable prototypes with clients and staff from different regions.
  4. 04Build and integrationSprints deliver the client app, dashboards and integrations, with demos for a steering group drawn from across the firm.
  5. 05Pilot office launchOne office or practice area launches first. We fix issues, finalise training material and confirm reporting before any wider release.
  6. 06Phased national rolloutOffices and jurisdictions join in agreed phases, each with training, data migration where needed and a short review before the next phase starts. Lessons from each phase are fed into the next.

Technology

What we build this with.

Our stack choices suit your client base, your existing case management and finance systems and the team who will support the app later. Data held in UK regions, staff login through your directory, and certified identity, screening and payment providers are standard options.

Questions UK firms ask before commissioning an app.

Three jurisdictions, several regulators and the UK wide data and money laundering rules.

An app for a UK firm must follow the rules of whichever regulator covers each matter, such as the SRA in England and Wales or the Law Society of Scotland, and apply UK GDPR, PECR and the Money Laundering Regulations everywhere. It must also handle the different procedures and terminology in each jurisdiction. We record all of this in discovery so it shapes the design from the start. Accessibility under the Equality Act also applies everywhere, so the design has to work for clients with a wide range of needs.
