Booking apps for UK travel agents and tour operators that sell regulated holidays.

Travel agency app development UK firms can rely on starts with the rules, not the screens. We build customer apps, consultant tools and admin systems for travel agents, homeworker networks and tour operators across Britain. Quotes, packages, deposits, balance reminders, ATOL paperwork and supplier bookings sit in one system, so a holiday sold in a branch, by phone or on a phone screen follows the same compliant process and every traveller can find their documents when they need them.

An app cannot make a business ATOL holder or an ABTA member. What it can do is make sure the protections you already offer are recorded, shown to the customer at the right moment and easy to prove later if a supplier fails or a complaint arrives. It also gives customers one place for the whole trip.

Features we build

What a UK travel business needs the app to handle.

Selling holidays in Britain means working inside a specific set of rules. The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 decide when you are the organiser of a package and what you owe the traveller. The Civil Aviation Authority runs ATOL for flight-inclusive sales. ABTA members follow its Code of Conduct. Since April 2025 the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act lets the CMA fine businesses directly for unfair practices such as drip pricing. UK GDPR, overseen by the ICO, covers passport and health details, and PECR governs your marketing emails and texts.

The features below are the ones we see UK agents and operators ask for most. We build them so the regulated steps happen automatically inside normal selling, rather than relying on a consultant remembering a checklist on a busy Saturday. Good travel booking app development UK customers actually use also means fast search on a weak signal and a checkout that never surprises them.

Explain your project
  • Quote and itinerary builder

Consultants assemble flights, hotels, transfers and extras into a quote the customer can open on their phone, compare against alternatives and accept with one tap. Each component keeps its supplier reference, so the quote converts into a booking without anyone retyping details or losing the price that was agreed on the call.

Quotes reach customers faster and convert without rekeying.

  • Package classification at the point of sale

When a basket combines travel services, the system works out whether you are creating a package, a linked travel arrangement or separate bookings, using rules your compliance lead signs off. The correct pre-contract information form is then shown and stored, with a timestamp, against that customer and booking.

The right Package Travel Regulations paperwork, every time.

  • ATOL certificate workflow

For flight-inclusive sales the app generates or attaches the ATOL certificate at the point the scheme requires, records which ATOL holder protects the booking and sends the customer a copy they can open offline. Agents selling as an agent for an ATOL holder see that relationship clearly in the record.

Proof of protection held for every flight-inclusive booking.

  • Deposits, balances and payment plans

Customers pay a deposit by card or bank transfer, see what is owed and when, and receive balance reminders before the due date. Card payments run through Strong Customer Authentication, and pay by bank through Open Banking can sit alongside cards where your payment provider supports it. Client money can be tracked against trust account rules if you use one.

Fewer chased balances and clear records of customer money.

  • Supplier connections

We connect to the sources you already contract with: GDS access for flights, airline NDC content, bedbanks, tour operator systems, cruise lines, rail and transfer providers. Availability and pricing are checked live where suppliers allow it, and bookings are written back to your back office so stock and records match.

Live availability without switching between supplier portals.

  • Total price shown upfront

Mandatory charges such as booking fees, resort fees and card surcharges are added to the first price a customer sees, not the last. Optional extras stay optional and are listed clearly. This keeps your displayed prices in line with the DMCC Act drip pricing rules and the CMA's price transparency guidance.

Headline prices that match what the customer pays.

  • Traveller wallet and documents

Tickets, vouchers, ATOL certificates, insurance details and the itinerary sit in one place in the app, available without signal. Passport and health information is collected only where a booking needs it, encrypted, limited to the staff who must see it and removed on the schedule set out in your privacy notice.

Travellers stop phoning the office for lost paperwork.

  • Homeworker and branch consultant app

Homeworking agents and branch staff share one booking platform with role based access, commission tracking and head office oversight. A network can see sales by consultant, flag bookings that miss a compliance step and push updated supplier terms to everyone at once, without separate spreadsheets for each member.

One standard across every branch and homeworker.

  • Disruption and duty of care alerts

When a flight changes, an airport strikes or Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advice shifts for a destination, the team sees which customers are affected and can message them in the app. Customers already abroad get clear next steps and a way to reach a person.

Problems handled before the phones start ringing.

  • Consent and marketing preferences

Customers choose what they hear about and how, and those choices travel with their record. Marketing emails, texts and push messages respect PECR, and a customer who withdraws consent drops out of every campaign at once rather than one list at a time. Preference changes made in a branch update the app record too.

Marketing that stays on the right side of the ICO.

Who we build for

Four kinds of UK travel business we work with.

Travel selling in Britain is spread across very different business models. A family-run agency on a high street, a network of several hundred homeworkers, a specialist tour operator and a fast growing online brand all face the same regulators but need different tools. These are the four starting points we see most, and how the first version of the app differs for each. Holiday booking app development UK families respond to looks different again from a trade tool used by consultants all day.

01

Independent agencies with one or a few branches

Your customers know your staff by name and still want that relationship when they book on a phone. We usually start with a client app for quotes, payments and documents, connected to the back office you already run, so consultants keep their way of working and customers get a modern place to manage their trip. Later releases add self-serve extras such as seats, parking and lounges. We also add a simple way for customers to message the branch, so questions arrive with the booking reference already attached.

Start with what your regulars ask for most.

02

Homeworker and franchise networks

Head office carries the ATOL and the trading terms, while hundreds of members sell under them. The platform has to enforce the same booking rules everywhere, pay commission correctly and give compliance staff a view across the whole network. We plan permissions, onboarding and member reporting before customer features. Member onboarding includes identity checks, training records and acceptance of network terms, all stored centrally. Head office can suspend a member's selling rights instantly if a compliance issue appears, without touching anyone else's bookings.

Network rules come first, branding second.

03

Tour operators organising their own packages

As the organiser you carry full responsibility for the package under the 2018 regulations. Your app needs departure inventory, rooming lists, supplier contracts, manifests and traveller communication in one place. Many operators also sell through agents, so we build a trade portal beside the consumer app with net pricing and agent commission. Pre-departure information, emergency contacts and itinerary changes reach travellers directly, which matters because the organiser must help travellers in difficulty during the trip. Supplier contracts and allocations are stored with release dates, so unsold rooms go back on time.

Organiser duties shape the whole data model.

04

Online travel brands scaling up

You already sell on the web and want an app that keeps customers coming back. We focus on fast search, saved trips, price alerts within consent rules and a checkout that is quick without hiding mandatory costs. Supplier connections and caching are planned for peak demand, such as the January booking rush. We also review how your existing web booking engine stores customers, so accounts and past bookings carry over into the app. Analytics are set up within consent rules to show where people drop out of search and checkout.

Peak traffic planning starts in discovery.

How a UK travel app gets built, in six stages.

  1. 01Discovery by video callWe map how you sell today, which suppliers you use, how ATOL and package rules apply to your products, and where customers and staff lose time. Every session runs remotely with your team.
  2. 02Compliance and data planPackage classification rules, certificate steps, consent, retention periods and data locations are written down and agreed with your compliance lead before design starts. Gaps are flagged early. Open questions go to your adviser.
  3. 03Design and accessibilityScreens are designed against WCAG 2.2 so customers with sight, motor or cognitive impairments can search, book and pay, in line with your duties under the Equality Act. Colour contrast and text size are checked.
  4. 04Supplier integrationEach supplier connection is built and tested against its sandbox, with fallbacks for slow responses so a single supplier outage does not stop the rest of the booking flow. Bookings are reconciled nightly.
  5. 05Testing with real staffConsultants and a small group of customers run real bookings in a test environment, including amendments, cancellations and refunds, before anything reaches the app stores. Problems found are fixed and retested.
  6. 06Launch and rolloutLarger agencies often launch with one branch or region first, then extend to other cities once processes settle. Releases continue from support data and staff feedback. Each new branch gets its own training.

Technology

What we build this with.

Native or cross-platform apps, a web admin, and APIs chosen to suit your suppliers, your payment provider and the back office system your accounts team already depends on. Hosting region and backups are agreed with you, so booking and customer data stay where your privacy notice says they are.

What UK travel businesses ask before they commission an app.

The app records protection; your licence or principal provides it.

ATOL is granted by the Civil Aviation Authority to a business, not to software. If you hold an ATOL, or sell as an agent for an ATOL holder, the app applies the rules you operate under: it identifies flight-inclusive bookings, issues or attaches the certificate when the scheme requires, and stores evidence of what the customer received. We take those rules from your ATOL documentation and your compliance lead, and we do not offer legal advice on whether a product needs protection.

Tell us what the business needs. We will tell you what to build first.
