Pharmacy apps for US operators licensed in one state or many.

Codeeo provides pharmacy app development in the USA for regional chains, mail order and digital pharmacies, specialty pharmacies and independents planning to grow beyond one market. We build patient apps, staff dashboards and fulfillment tools that respect the way American pharmacy is regulated: a separate board of pharmacy in every state, DEA control over controlled substances, HIPAA for patient data and payers who expect accreditation. Patients manage prescriptions their prescribers have issued; pharmacists stay responsible for every dispensing decision.

Codeeo has no US office. Our team of 80+ in Dubai, Riyadh and Karachi works remotely with American clients, with discovery, reviews and demos held by video call. We have delivered 200+ projects across the UAE and the US and are rated 4.7 from 23 Google reviews.

Platform capabilities

What a national pharmacy platform needs to do.

National operators face a different problem from a single neighborhood store. A pharmacy app that serves patients in several states is less about screens and more about rules. Each state board decides who may dispense to its residents, which is why mail order and digital pharmacies typically hold nonresident licenses in every state they ship to. Payers and pharmacy benefit managers set network requirements, and many look for NABP Digital Pharmacy Accreditation, the program formerly known as VIPPS. Controlled substances fall under DEA registration and the federal rules for electronic prescriptions in 21 CFR Part 1311. The capabilities below are designed so state by state differences live in configuration, not in separate apps, and so no part of the product offers prescription medicine to anyone without a valid prescriber order.

Explain your project
  • State aware eligibility

The patient's shipping state is checked against the states where your pharmacy holds a license before any prescription order is accepted. Products, delivery options and messages adjust by state, and the dashboard shows which licenses cover which orders, so compliance staff can review it quickly.

Orders never flow to states where you are not licensed.

  • E-prescription intake and status

New prescriptions arrive from prescribers through the e-prescribing network into your pharmacy system, and the app shows the patient each stage: received, benefits check, prior authorization, filling, shipped. Transfers from other pharmacies are requested in the app and completed by your pharmacists.

Patients see progress without calling the support line.

  • Controlled substance safeguards

Configurable rules restrict which schedules can be shipped, require signatures or adult handover, and hide refill buttons where early refills are not allowed. The app relies on your DEA registered pharmacy processes and the prescriber's EPCS certified software rather than accepting controlled prescriptions directly.

DEA obligations are reflected in what the app allows.

  • Mail order and cold chain shipping

Carrier integrations for ground and overnight shipping, packaging rules for refrigerated items, tracking in the app and alerts when a temperature sensitive package is delayed. Patients confirm addresses and delivery preferences before each shipment.

Fewer lost or spoiled shipments across long distances.

  • Product tracing visibility

The federal Drug Supply Chain Security Act requires dispensers to work with traceable product data. The staff platform can surface lot, expiry and recall information from your inventory and wholesaler systems, notify affected patients when a recall touches a medicine they received, and keep a record of those notices.

Recalls reach the right patients quickly and leave a documented trail.

  • Benefits, cash prices and payments

Insurance card capture, copay display once claims adjudicate, and payment through Apple Pay, Google Pay, stored cards and HSA or FSA cards via a PCI DSS compliant processor. Cash pay pricing for patients without coverage can be shown where you offer it.

Patients know what they owe before an order ships.

  • Pharmacist telehealth counseling

Secure chat, phone callback and video counseling with licensed pharmacists, routed by the patient's state where licensing requires it. Counseling offers are recorded against the order for audit. Long term care facilities can also see cycle fill dates per resident.

Counseling obligations are met for patients who never visit a counter.

  • Prescriber and partner portals

Web portals let clinics, telehealth providers and long term care facilities check order status, upload documents for prior authorization and receive alerts. Access is scoped by organization and logged.

    Partners stop phoning for updates.

  • Compliance and operations reporting

Dashboards for order volumes by state, turnaround times, shipping exceptions, refill adherence and access logs. Reports export to your BI tools and support accreditation surveys and payer audits.

Evidence for audits is ready when someone asks.

  • Patient identity and account security

Account creation checks name, date of birth and address against the prescription record before any medication history is shown. Sign in supports passkeys, device biometrics and multi factor codes, and caregiver or proxy access is granted only with the patient's recorded consent.

Medication histories stay with the people entitled to see them.

Who it is for

Four US pharmacy models we build for.

American pharmacy covers many business models, and the right app depends on which one you run. A regional chain worries about consistency across stores; a mail order pharmacy worries about licensing in every state and about shipping. We tailor discovery to the model, then build the parts that carry the most risk first. Ownership structure also matters: a private equity backed platform and a family business with three stores may want the same features at very different paces.

01

Digital and mail order pharmacies

You ship to patients in many states and compete on convenience. The app must handle state eligibility, shipping, cash and insured pricing, and counseling at a distance, and it should support your NABP accreditation and payer network applications rather than complicate them. We plan the licensing logic and the audit trail first, then the patient experience on top. Support teams get tools to resolve address, payment and shipping problems without escalating to pharmacists.

Accreditation evidence is easier when the app logs it from day one.

02

Regional chains entering new metros

A chain moving from one state into neighboring ones needs one brand, one app and different store level rules. We build location selection, state specific content, staff permissions by store and reporting by market, so a new region launches as configuration rather than a fork of the codebase. Store openings, holiday hours and local delivery zones can be updated by regional managers without a new app release.

New states arrive as configuration, not a second codebase.

03

Specialty pharmacies with national programs

Limited distribution drugs, manufacturer programs and payer requirements mean heavy coordination. The app follows each patient from referral through benefits investigation, financial assistance and shipment, and gives clinical teams tools for adherence and side effect check ins. Integration with your specialty platform and hub partners is central. Patients on these therapies often live far from the pharmacy, so shipment timing and clear instructions carry real clinical weight.

Hub and manufacturer program integrations are scoped early.

04

Telehealth companies adding pharmacy

Telehealth brands sometimes open or partner with a licensed pharmacy to fill what their clinicians prescribe. We build the pharmacy side so prescriptions only come from licensed prescribers through proper e-prescribing, pharmacists review every order, and controlled substance prescribing follows current DEA telemedicine rules as your counsel confirms them. Because those rules have changed several times, we keep them in configuration so they can be updated without rebuilding the app.

Clinical and pharmacy roles stay clearly separated.

From national plan to launch, in six steps.

  1. 01Regulatory and business discoveryWe review your licenses, target states, DEA registrations, payer contracts and accreditation plans with your team and counsel over video calls, then list the rules the app must enforce and the states where launch comes first.
  2. 02Architecture and integrationsWe design how the app connects to your pharmacy system, e-prescribing feeds, carriers, payment processors and partner portals, and where each kind of data is stored.
  3. 03Experience designFlows for refills, transfers, shipping, counseling and payment are designed and tested with representative patients, including older users and people relying on assistive technology.
  4. 04Iterative buildPatient apps, staff tools and portals are developed in sprints with demos to your pharmacy, compliance and operations leads at each step.
  5. 05Verification and securityWe test state eligibility logic, controlled substance rules, HIPAA safeguards, penetration resistance and accessibility, and document results for your compliance file.
  6. 06Phased rolloutLaunch in one or two states, review real orders and support tickets with your operations lead, then extend state by state as licenses, payer networks and staffing allow.

Technology

What we build this with.

Cross platform or native mobile apps, a web platform for staff and partners, and cloud hosting on HIPAA eligible services in your own account. We integrate through NCPDP standards, HL7 or FHIR interfaces, and vendor APIs as each partner supports. Infrastructure is defined as code so new environments for additional states or brands can be created consistently. Every surface is built to WCAG guidance, since accessibility is a practical expectation under the ADA for consumer facing businesses and matters to older patients using screen readers or larger text.

Questions US pharmacy leaders ask.

State pharmacy licensing, DEA rules, HIPAA and state privacy laws, at minimum.

Every state board of pharmacy regulates dispensing to its residents, so the app must know where you are licensed. Controlled substances follow DEA registration and electronic prescribing rules. Patient data is protected health information under HIPAA, and some state laws, such as California's CCPA and CPRA or Washington's My Health My Data Act, can reach data outside HIPAA. We build controls for each, and your counsel confirms the interpretation. Card networks and advertising platforms add their own checks on pharmacy merchants, which we plan for early.
