Los Angeles school apps that work in Spanish first and hold up on emergency days.

Codeeo provides school app development Los Angeles charter networks, private schools and education providers can rely on for daily family contact: bilingual messages, absence reporting, bell schedules, fee payments, digital forms and emergency alerts in one iOS and Android app. Every build is planned around California's student privacy laws, including SOPIPA and the Education Code rules on vendor contracts, as well as FERPA and COPPA at the federal level.

We are a team of 80+ across Dubai, Riyadh and Karachi with 200+ projects delivered in the UAE and the US. For Los Angeles schools we work remotely: discovery, reviews, demos and training all happen by video call.

Features for Los Angeles schools

What a Los Angeles school app needs to do well.

Los Angeles schools communicate with families across long distances and many languages. A parent in the San Fernando Valley might work across the city in Downtown or Santa Monica, a grandparent might handle pickup, and the first language at home is often Spanish, with Korean, Armenian, Tagalog, Chinese, Vietnamese and many others close behind. On top of daily routines, schools here plan for earthquakes, wildfire smoke and heat. The features below reflect that mix. We rarely build all of them at once; discovery decides what the first release covers and what waits until your staff and families have settled in. For each feature we also decide which roles can read the data it creates and how long that data is kept.

Explain your project
  • Spanish first bilingual design

Many Los Angeles families read Spanish before English, so we design screens, notifications and forms to work fully in Spanish from launch, with other languages added by family preference. Translated text is tested in the real layout, because Spanish copy usually runs longer than English and can break buttons that were sized for English words.

Spanish speaking parents use the app as easily as anyone else.

  • Emergency alerts and reunification

For an earthquake, a lockdown or a wildfire closure, the app sends priority alerts by push, text and email together, shows families where and how reunification will happen, and lets staff confirm which adults collected which students. The release roster comes from your authorized pickup list, not from whoever arrives first.

On the worst day, families get clear instructions and the office keeps an accurate release record.

  • Air quality and heat notices

When smoke or extreme heat changes recess, athletics or dismissal, staff can send a targeted notice to the affected grades or teams within minutes, with a template prepared in advance in each language so nobody is translating under pressure.

Schedule changes reach the right families quickly and in their language.

  • Absence reporting and attendance follow up

Parents report absences with a reason and a note, and the office sees a live list. Patterns of unexcused absence can be flagged early so counselors reach out before a case escalates toward a School Attendance Review Board referral, with every contact logged.

Attendance problems are spotted while there is still time to help.

  • Getting to school

Bus stop times and delay alerts where the school runs buses, carpool and pickup line instructions for campuses with tight streets, and information on transit options such as the LA Metro GoPass program for students who ride the bus or train.

Families know every way their child can get to campus and back.

  • Enrollment and annual forms

New family enrollment, emergency contact updates, home language surveys, media releases and field trip permissions completed on a phone, with document upload, e-signatures and reminders until each form is finished.

The office starts the year with complete files instead of a stack of paper.

  • Child accounts under COPPA

Elementary students under 13 are covered by COPPA, so any student facing feature, such as a reading log or a class gallery, is built with minimal personal data, no ad networks, no behavioral analytics and school authorization limited to educational use. Middle and high school students can have fuller accounts with schedules, grades links and counselor booking, still without advertising.

Students under 13 get a safe, simple view and older students get tools that fit their age.

  • Fees and payments

Tuition installments for private schools, trip fees, spirit wear, after school programs and cafeteria balances paid with a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through a processor certified for PCI DSS, so card data never touches your servers.

Fewer checks to deposit and a clear record for the business office.

  • Parent meetings and councils

Notices, agendas and sign ups for parent conferences, School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee meetings, with interpretation requests captured when a parent registers, so the school can arrange support ahead of time.

More parents take part in the meetings that shape the school.

  • Staff tools and admin console

Teachers message families and record attendance from their phones. Office staff manage templates and contacts, and administrators see message delivery, form completion and access logs, with permissions defined by role and reviewed each school year.

Leaders can see that communication is reaching every family.

Who this is for

The Los Angeles schools and providers we work with.

LA County has dozens of school districts, a large charter school sector, a wide range of Catholic, Jewish, Armenian and other faith schools, and many independent day schools. They differ in governance, budget and who signs off on software. Here is how the first version usually changes for each.

01

A charter network with several campuses

A network running campuses in, say, South LA, the Eastside and the Valley needs one app with campus level control: each principal manages their own announcements, while the network office sends policy updates to everyone. We set up shared templates, campus roles and network reporting, and we plan for the data agreements charter boards and authorizers expect from a vendor. Families who move a child between campuses keep the same login, and their history follows them without the office re-entering contacts.

Campus control and network reporting are planned together, not added later.

02

A private or faith based school

Tuition schools usually care about brand and family experience as much as logistics. The app carries your identity, covers chapel or assembly schedules, athletics, performances and giving, and supports families with several children across divisions. Families who speak Armenian, Korean or Hebrew at home can read core notices in that language where you choose to offer it.

Brand and daily logistics live in the same app.

03

An after school or expanded learning provider

Providers running programs on many campuses deal with daily sign in and sign out, authorized pickup, staff ratios and attendance that funders review. We build check in tools for site staff, pickup verification for parents and reports that match what your contracts require, while keeping pupil data separate from your marketing lists. Site leads can message only the families on their roster, so a coach at one campus never sees contacts from another.

Pickup authorization is treated as a safety feature, not a convenience.

04

An edtech company selling to California districts

California districts read vendor contracts carefully, and many ask vendors to sign a standard student data privacy agreement. We build your product so the promises in those agreements are true in the software: no targeted advertising, no profiling for non school purposes, deletion on request and clear data ownership by the district.

Privacy promises in the contract are matched by features in the code.

Six stages for a Los Angeles school app.

  1. 01Remote discoveryVideo sessions with your office team, teachers, a few parents and your IT contact to map how messages, forms, attendance and pickup really work across your campus or campuses.
  2. 02California privacy reviewWe list every pupil data field and check it against SOPIPA, Education Code 49073.1 contract terms, FERPA and COPPA, removing anything the app does not need.
  3. 03Bilingual prototypesClickable prototypes in English and Spanish, and other priority languages, tested with real parents so labels and flows make sense before any code is written.
  4. 04Sprints and integrationsTwo week sprints with a demo at the end of each, covering the mobile apps, the admin console and links to your student information system, sign in and payments.
  5. 05Drills before launchWe rehearse an emergency alert and a reunification release with staff, test every role on old and new phones, then publish under your developer accounts.
  6. 06Year round careUpdates for new iOS and Android versions, back to school preparation each August, and a running list of improvements agreed with your team.

Technology

What we build this with.

We build cross platform apps in React Native or Flutter, staff dashboards on the web and back ends hosted in US cloud regions. Common links include student information systems through OneRoster or vendor APIs, Google or Microsoft sign in for staff and students, and a PCI DSS certified payment processor. Push notifications use Apple and Google services with no message content stored by third parties.

What Los Angeles schools ask us about school apps.

Timing depends on scope, integrations, languages and your school calendar.

A single campus app with messaging, absences and forms moves faster than a multi campus build with payments, reunification tools and a student information system sync. Translation and testing in Spanish and other languages also need their own time. We set the first release in discovery and work backward from a launch date that avoids testing season and the first days of school, then confirm the plan in writing. We also leave a buffer for app store review, which can take longer around major iOS releases.

Tell us what the business needs. We will tell you what to build first.
