SEO Rank Tracking Tools for Saudi Arabia: What to Track and How

How to track Google rankings in Saudi Arabia: by city, Arabic and English keywords, mobile, local pack, AI Overviews and Search Console.

Good SEO rank tracking for Saudi Arabia means checking positions for Arabic and English keywords, by city, on mobile and desktop, and in the local map results, then reading those positions alongside Google Search Console data. A rank tracker tells you where you appear for a fixed list of searches; Search Console tells you what real searchers saw and clicked. You need both, set up for the Kingdom rather than a generic global view.

This guide explains what to track, how location and language change the results in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, how to think about AI Overviews, and how to choose a tool by the features that matter for a Saudi site. It does not rank or review specific products, because the right tool depends on your keyword list, budget and team.

Why SEO rank tracking needs a Saudi setup

Google results are personalised by location, language and device. A tracker set to a generic country view, or worse to a different country, gives you numbers that no real customer sees. In the Kingdom, three factors matter more than usual.

City level differences

Searches with local intent, such as clinics, restaurants, contractors, schools or car services, return different results in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. Even broader commercial searches can shift between cities when Google detects local intent. If you serve several cities, track each one separately. A business that ranks well in Riyadh may be invisible to searchers in the Eastern Province.

Arabic and English searches

Saudi searchers use both languages, and often mix them. Someone might search in Arabic for a service, in English for a brand name, and in transliterated Arabic written in Latin letters. Each version can return different pages. Your keyword list should include Arabic terms in the forms people actually type, including common spelling variants, alongside English terms. Our Arabic SEO keyword research guide explains how to build that list.

Mobile first behaviour

Much of Saudi search happens on phones, and mobile results often differ from desktop in layout and order. Map packs, AI Overviews and other features push organic links further down on a small screen. Track mobile as your primary view and desktop as a secondary one unless your audience is mostly office based.

What to track

A tracker is only as useful as the keyword list you feed it. Build the list around business value rather than volume.

  • Money keywords: searches that signal buying intent for your main services or products, in Arabic and English.
  • City modified keywords: the same terms with Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam or other city names added, in both languages.
  • Brand keywords: your company name and common misspellings, to check that your own pages own the results.
  • Problem and question keywords: informational searches your blog or guides target.
  • Competitor comparison terms: searches where buyers compare options in your category.
  • Local pack terms: searches where a map with three businesses appears.

Group keywords by service, language, city and page. Tagging this way lets you see quickly whether an Arabic service page is slipping in Jeddah while its English version holds steady in Riyadh.

Which page ranks, not only the position

Record which URL ranks for each term. If the English page ranks for an Arabic search, or the blog post outranks the service page, you have a language targeting or internal linking problem to fix. Many trackers flag when the ranking URL changes, which often explains sudden drops.

Local pack and map rankings

For businesses with a physical location, the map results can matter more than the organic list. Map rankings depend heavily on where the searcher stands, so a single check from the city centre can be misleading. A clinic in north Riyadh may rank first for searchers nearby and not appear for someone a few districts away.

Grid based tracking addresses this by checking the same keyword from many points across an area and showing the results as a map. It helps you see how far your visibility reaches and where competitors take over. Combine it with your Google Business Profile performance data, which shows how people found your profile and whether they called, requested directions or visited the website. Google Search Console: the source of truth

Rank trackers simulate searches. Google Search Console reports what happened on real searches. Every Saudi site should have it set up, with both language versions verified and sitemaps submitted.

What Search Console shows

The Performance report lists queries, pages, clicks, impressions, click through rate and average position. You can filter by country, so select Saudi Arabia to remove traffic from elsewhere, and by device to separate mobile and desktop. Data covers roughly the past sixteen months, which is enough to compare seasonal periods such as Ramadan year over year. Google's own Search Central documentation explains each metric in detail.

What it does not show

Search Console does not break data down by city, so it cannot tell you how you rank in Jeddah compared with Riyadh. Average position is averaged across all impressions, so a page that appears in position two for some searchers and position twenty for others shows a middling figure. Some rare queries are hidden for privacy. That is why a dedicated tracker and Search Console complement each other rather than compete.

AI Overviews and AI search visibility

AI generated answers now sit above traditional results for many informational searches. They change what ranking means: a page can rank well and still get fewer clicks if an AI answer satisfies the searcher, or it can earn visibility by being cited as a source inside the answer.

Google has said that impressions and clicks from its AI features are counted within the regular web search data in Search Console rather than reported separately. Some commercial trackers now record whether an AI Overview appears for a tracked keyword and whether your site is cited in it. If your category is heavily informational, this is worth tracking. Our article on AEO, GEO and SEO strategy covers how to structure content that AI answers can cite, and AI SEO tools for Saudi businesses looks at the wider tool landscape.

How to choose a rank tracker for Saudi Arabia

Well known options include the rank tracking modules inside Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking, and dedicated trackers such as AccuRanker. Features and plans change often, so judge any tool against your own requirements rather than a list of brand names.

Features that matter in the Kingdom

  • Tracking by Saudi city, not just country, ideally with Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and other cities you serve available as locations.
  • Arabic keyword support with correct display of right to left text and Arabic characters in reports.
  • Separate mobile and desktop tracking.
  • Detection of search features: map packs, AI Overviews, featured snippets, videos and People Also Ask boxes.
  • Tagging and grouping by language, city, service and page.
  • Competitor tracking for the same keyword set.
  • Integration with Google Search Console and Google Analytics, plus exportable or shareable reports.
  • Update frequency that suits you: daily for competitive terms, weekly for long lists.

Questions to ask before you subscribe

How many keyword and location combinations does your list need? Twenty keywords across three cities, two languages and two devices is already a large number of tracked results. Does the tool charge per keyword, per location or per update? Can several team members or your agency access it? Run a trial with a real sample of Arabic keywords and check the results by hand from a Saudi location before committing.

Setting up rank tracking: a step by step checklist

  1. Verify your site in Google Search Console, including every language version and subdomain.
  2. Submit XML sitemaps and confirm the Arabic and English pages are indexed.
  3. Build a keyword list grouped by service, language and city, with the target page for each keyword.
  4. Choose a tracker that supports Saudi cities, Arabic keywords and mobile tracking.
  5. Add locations for every city you serve and set mobile as the primary device.
  6. Add three to five real competitors per service.
  7. Set up grid checks for map pack terms if you have physical branches.
  8. Agree a reporting rhythm: weekly checks on priority terms, a monthly review against Search Console clicks and enquiries.
  9. Annotate changes such as site updates, migrations and campaigns so movements can be explained later.

Reading the data without overreacting

Rankings move daily. Small swings are normal, especially after Google updates. Look at trends over several weeks, and at groups of keywords rather than single terms. When a group falls, check in order: did the ranking URL change, did a technical issue appear in Search Console, did a competitor publish something stronger, or did a search feature push results down? Technical problems such as slow pages or broken hreflang often show up first as falling rankings; a technical SEO review can find them quickly.

Above all, connect rankings to business outcomes. A position gain that brings no enquiries is less valuable than a small gain on a term that fills your WhatsApp inbox. Track goals in analytics and tie them back to the pages and keywords that drove them. To track Google rankings well is to track the right words in the right places, then judge them by the leads they produce.
