The University of Georgia came to Codeeo to bring the services its students use through the year into one place.
About the client
A university student portal is the software students use most and think about least. It is opened between lectures, on a phone, usually to do one specific thing quickly.
What they needed
Student services grow one system at a time, and each arrives with its own login and its own idea of navigation. The student is left to remember which service lives where.
The portal had to put those services behind one sign in and present them in one language, so that finding something does not depend on knowing which department owns it.
What we built
A portal that brings the services students use through the year into a single signed in experience, organised by what the student is trying to do rather than by the department that provides it.
It was built mobile first, because the majority of student sessions are short, on a phone, and often on campus wifi rather than a fixed connection.
Capacity was a requirement rather than a hope. Student traffic is seasonal and brutal: enrolment, results and timetable release put months of usage into a few hours.
How we worked
We mapped the tasks students actually perform before designing a screen, and the navigation was built from that list.
Accessibility was treated as part of the build rather than an audit at the end, which is the only way it survives contact with a deadline.
The portal and its accounts belong to the university.
