Native iOS and Android apps, broadcast backend on AWS, admin panel.
Platform
Swift and Kotlin apps, Node.js API with MongoDB on EC2, S3 media, Next.js admin.

In short

OurCast Live turns a phone into a personal assistive listening device. A venue broadcasts, attendees tune in and hear every word clearly, with no extra hardware. Native apps on both platforms, a Node.js and MongoDB backend on AWS, and an admin for broadcasts, account types and interests.

The brief

Latency is the whole product.

Assistive listening only works if the audio arrives while the speaker is still speaking. Everything else is secondary to that.

What had to be true

  • Real time broadcast

A venue starts a broadcast and attendees hear it on their own phones as it happens.
  • Native on both platforms

Swift on iOS and Kotlin on Android, because audio latency is where cross platform shows.
  • Accessible by design

Built to serve ADA aligned assistive listening without special equipment.
  • An operator console

Broadcasts, account types, interests and users managed in an admin.

What we did

We went native and kept the backend lean.

Two native apps, one broadcast API, deployed on the client's own AWS account.
01

Native audio paths

Separate iOS and Android codebases, so each uses the platform's own low latency audio stack.

Latency over code sharing.

02

Broadcast backend on AWS

Node.js behind Nginx on EC2, MongoDB and S3, documented for the client's own account.

Theirs to run.

03

Admin for the venue side

Broadcasts, account types and interests, so venues and the operator manage events without us.

Operated, not maintained.

What changed

Hear every word, no hardware.

What the product delivers at an event.
